Today you leave New York City and travel to Philadelphia, the birthplace of America. Founded in 1682, Philadelphia served as the nation’s capital while Washington, D.C. was under construction. Visit Independence Hall, the very place where the Declaration of Independence was signed and where and the U.S. Constitution was adopted. Stop for a photo at the Liberty Bell. “Proclaim Liberty Throughout the Land Unto All the Inhabitants Thereof,” the bell’s inscription, provided a rally cry for abolitionists wishing to end slavery. To end the tour who can resist reenacting Sylvester Stallone’s “Rocky” moment by climbing the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Continue south as we make our way to the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. A late morning arrival allows time to visit the awe-inspiring Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson memorials, the Washington Monument, the U.S. Capitol, as well as a stop outside of the White House. End the day dining in one of the many restaurants that line the cobblestone streets of Georgetown.
Today’s full day tour gives participants the opportunity to experience a portion of the Smithsonian, as it contains more than 120 million artifacts spread across 16 separate museums. Just outside Washington, D.C. proper, head to Arlington Cemetery, most notable as the gravesite of the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy. Arlington Cemetery is also the final resting place for more than 400,000 active duty members, veterans. “Service to Country” is the common thread that binds all those who are honored and remembered here.

Get your first glimpse of the falls as you cross the Rainbow Bridge to Niagara Falls, Ontario and enjoy dinner high above the illuminated falls.

A drive through the Mojave Desert leads to Las Vegas today. Along the route discover the famed Joshua Trees that look as if their arms are reaching to the sky in prayer, hence settlers dubbed them “Joshua”. A stop in Calico Ghost town takes you to the Frontier Days and if time permits one of the shopping outlets along the road may be a good break from the road trip.

This morning rise early for a tour to the Western Rim of the Grand Canyon. Situated on tribal land of the Hualapei Indian Tribe, it has become a major attraction since the tribe had a Skywalk bridge built. The Grand Canyon Skywalk is an engineering marvel: a U-shaped, glass bottom bridge protruding 21 meters out from the rim and seemingly balancing 1200 meters above the Canyon. This is not for the faint at heart! The skywalk, and the surrounding area on solid ground, offer spectacular views onto the Canyon. You will have a narrated ground tour with tribal guides while at Grand Canyon and you can enjoy cultural presentations on Hualapai traditions that are performed daily. Return to Las Vegas at night.
Note customization options at extra cost are variable and include river rafting or helicopter flights into the canyon on this day
This morning we head back to California via Death Valley, the lowest point of elevation in North America and home to fantastic rock formations. Stark in appearance and haunting in name, Death Valley is a very-much-alive desert set between high, snow-capped mountains. The name doesn’t do justice to the vibrancy of Death Valley—the mysteries of the life sustained in this arid and isolated landscape capture the attention of adventurers.
The day ends in the Bakersfield/ Fresno area
Note: When the temperature in Death Valley is projected to be over 105 F/40 C in the morning of departure, the tour will have to forego Death Valley for safety measures
On your way to San Francisco visit one of the crown jewels in the National Park system: Yosemite. This is a land where history was made—The US’ first land dedicated to recreation and enjoyment. It is here where the idea of National Parks and its protection for future generations was developed. Officially established as National Park in 1890 (after Yellowstone) Yosemite draws four million annual visitors annually. This diverse land, with elevations ranging from 2,000 to over 13,000 feet, abounds with spectacular granite cliffs, giant waterfalls, and towering trees. Almost 95 percent of the park is classified as wilderness. Enjoy nature’s abundance here.
You will continue North to San Francisco for overnight
The City by the Bay is vibrant and young thanks to its new economy influx of Silicon Valley and likes of Google and Facebook. What was once best known as the gateway for Asian immigration, still immortalized at Angel Island north of the city, has grown into a young, urban, chic and multicultural metropolis that still enjoys the California laid back lifestyle. Drawing millions of tourists annually for the sights of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and Fisherman’s Wharf, the city offers a variety of eclectic neighborhoods and sights that are best explored on foot.
This morning’s guided city tour will show you the highlights of this fascinating jewel of a city, leaving you free time to explore in the afternoon.
After 2 weeks of seeing the best of the East and West, we hope you depart for home with the greatest memories and a desire to return to these United States for more sites to see.
