Welcome to the City of Angels where the sun is always shining! After your arrival at Los Angeles International or Ontario airport, transfer to your hotel. The night is yours to enjoy.
This morning embark on a city tour of LA which is not just one, but many different cities – from the hills of Hollywood to the beaches of Santa Monica, all is considered Los Angeles to the visitor but distinctly different cities to its citizens. Depending on the location of your hotel you may start in Downtown at the hip and happening LA Live, home to the biggest events and sport games in the city. See Disney Hall built by architect Frank Gehry. Then move to Hollywood, home of the movie industry. Visit the Chinese Theatre with its famed hand and footprints of the stars, meander a bit on the Walk of Fame and perhaps find your favorite star on the sidewalk. At the nearby Hollywood & Highland complex you will have a great photo spot to take your selfie with the Hollywood sign as a backdrop and see where the Oscars take place annually. Next is the Farmer’s Market area and museum row (optional add on: include one museum entrance), perhaps stop for a picture of the Urban Lights before walking through the Farmers Market and enjoying lunch on own from one of the food stands.
In Beverly Hills you can get a glimpse of Rodeo Drive before moving to the Beach and Santa Monica which is the end of the famed Route 66. Here take the afternoon at leisure for shopping or perhaps a ride on the iconic Ferris Wheel of the Santa Monica Pier.
The city tour is very customizable and can be modified according to group’s interest.
Crossing the Mojave Desert you will be able to see the native Joshua Trees along the highway. Made iconic in the 1980’s by the rock band U2, these trees were actually named by early Mormon settlers. The shapes of the trees reminded them of the biblical story of Joshua raising his hands into the heavens.
Stop in Barstow or Calico Ghost Town for lunch before arriving in Las Vegas. The night is yours to enjoy to experience all Las Vegas has to offer – neon lights, shows, roller coasters, gambling or shopping. There is truly something for everyone in Vegas.
Today your tour takes you to one of the Natural Wonders of the World. En route to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon stop at Hoover Dam on the Colorado River, which has created the largest water reservoir in the United States.
Then, a sure highlight for any trip to the Western United States- Grand Canyon! Here on the West Rim it is situated on Native American tribal lands of the Hualapai Tribe and is home to the Grand Canyon Skywalk.
The Grand Canyon Skywalk is a horseshoe-shaped cantilever bridge with a glass walkway that extends about 21 meters out from the rim and seems to float off the cliff. Look down and you can see right through the glass platform 1200 meter to the floor of the Canyon below. Profiled by the National Geographic Channel and CNN, this engineering marvel offers unparalleled views of one of the world’s Seven Natural Wonders. Nervous about walking on glass almost a mile above the floor of the Grand Canyon? Have no fear—the Skywalk is strong enough to hold seventy fully loaded 747 passenger jets.
Enjoy the walk onto the Skywalk and the shuttle bus tour of the various viewpoints during your time here. Lunch will be provided picnic style. As an optional add on, helicopter flights can be pre booked offering an even further spectacular bird’s eye view. Return to Las Vegas in the early evening.
Today, journey through the Mojave Desert before ascending into the High Sierras, and the resort of Mammoth Lakes. This picturesque alpine style resort is famous as both a summer and skiing destination and provides breath-taking scenery and stunning views of surrounding areas.
Note: this routing and overnight is only possible between June and mid September due to winter road closure of Tioga Pass. In winter the route would have to overnight in Fresno and could not visit Mammoth Lakes
This morning a short distance trip through the scenic mountain ranges of the High Sierras will take you to Yosemite National Park. This is a land where history was made—The US’ first land dedicated to recreation and enjoyment. It is here where the idea of National Parks and its protection for future generations was developed. Officially established as a National Park in 1890 (after Yellowstone) Yosemite draws four million annual visitors. This diverse land, with elevations ranging from 600 to over 3900 meters, abounds with spectacular granite cliffs, giant waterfalls, and towering trees. Almost 95 percent of the park is classified as wilderness. Stop and enjoy Tunnel View showing off a stunning perspective on El Capitan, Half Dome and Bridalveil Falls. Explore the Yosemite Village and perhaps take a walk to Yosemite Falls before heading north to San Francisco.
Today tour the City by the Bay in the morning. See the Golden Gate Bridge, the Painted Ladies houses, the curviest street in the world (Lombard Street) Union Square and more. For lunch perhaps enjoy the local specialty clam chowder in a bread bowl at Fisherman’s Wharf before you take the afternoon at leisure for shopping. Alternatively you can add an optional activity such as visiting the California Academy of Sciences, taking a Bay Cruise or accept a fitness challenge and bike across the Golden Gate Bridge, the opportunities are endless.
Transfer to the airport for your return home.
